Graduate Programme Manager

Reporting to the HR Director and Graduate Partner with responsibility for all Trainee, Intern and Work Experience programmes and participants. 

Responsibilities broadly as follows:

  • To take overall responsibility for the planning and delivery of all relevant programmes and the organisation and administration of the associated recruitment processes
  • To review all programmes on an ongoing basis and make recommendations for improvements 
  • To work with the Marketing team to maintain the Firm’s Trainee website, to identify and manage appropriate social networking platforms and to identify, recommend and pitch for awards
  • To liaise with 3rd level faculties, careers offices and societies regarding CSR/sponsorship opportunities, careers fairs, internships and other activities with potential to increase the Firm’s profile and feed positively into Trainee recruitment
  • To attend/present (alone or with others) at university events, to ensure all practical arrangements are in place and to liaise with Marketing regarding items such as slides, brochures and stands
  • To design and implement appropriate recruitment and selection practices with particular emphasis on the annual high-volume recruitment rounds for Trainee and Summer Interns
  • To liaise with the Law Society and Institute of Tax on all Trainee-related matters and to complete and submit all the associated paperwork
  • To plan and manage Trainee rotations and Intern assignments bearing in mind resource needs, individual preferences and Law Society/university requirements
  • To monitor Trainee performance, ensure timely completion of bi-annual rotation reviews, elicit/give feedback and deal with issues in conjunction with the relevant Fee Earners
  • To collaborate with Partners and the Learning & Development team to ensure that each Trainee’s development is maximised with an appropriate balance between their career aspirations and the Firm's future talent requirements
  • To monitor market trends and make salary and benefits recommendations
  • To deliver HR induction to Trainees and Interns
  • To meet regularly with Trainees/the Trainee Committee and to deal with issues/provide support as appropriate
  • To liaise with the Facilities and IT teams in relation to logistics


  • 3rd level qualifications in a relevant discipline; training, HR or law qualifications an advantage
  • Minimum of 5 years relevant experience preferably gained in a professional services environment; experience in a legal environment an advantage
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and writing skills
  • Ability to engage appropriately and effectively with people at all levels within the Firm
  • Strong administration and organisational skills; ability to be self-supporting
  • Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook & Powerpoint); previous experience with databases and recruitment software systems an advantage
  • Ability to prioritise effectively, manage multiple tasks and use time well
  • A flexible ‘hands-on’ approach to work and people

Working hours are normally 9am to 5.30pm but a significant degree of flexibility and availability outside these hours will be required.
